What most people do is, get something in their brain as a goal. Which goal is very confused in itself and not clear. They forget about their goal in a month or two.

What is Setting goals?

Before we get to setting goals, we have to understand what a goal is. Many misunderstand a goal as any self-improvement activity they do. Just like keeping “Reading book daily” as a goal. That’s not a goal.

A goal is a purpose. It’s your objective or project you want to achieve or complete. Goals are the things you do self-improvement activities for. A goal gives your effort meaning and direction.

So instead of “reading books daily” be your goal. What you wanna achieve by “reading books daily” will be your goal. Your goal will give you meaning to read books daily. You will read books daily to achieve your goal.

Why is Setting goals Important

Setting goals for yourself is as important as achieving them. Many people fail in achieving their goals because they don’t set their goals properly.

If you want to achieve your goal you have to set it correctly and clearly. How can someone be successful without any goal? No goal can be achieved without setting it. Setting goals for yourself gives you direction. It gives you a purpose and a path to follow.

A person without a goal is like a ship without a rudder. No matter how much hard work he does to take that ship to the shore, he can’t. Having a goal gives you rudder, which gives you direction making it easy for you to get to shore.

Having a clear goal keeps you moving, increases your happiness, and significantly benefits your organization. When you set goals for yourself, you create a vision of what your life could look like. Then you start to push yourself daily to achieve that life. Setting goals for yourself is important by all means.

The Proper Way of Setting Goals

When set properly, goals give you a direction and a path to follow to success. It gives you a blueprint to success. When you have a clear goal in mind, it moves you toward it.

You should have a crystal clear goal in your brain. You should be clear, about what you wanna achieve. where you wanna go with your life? What kind of person do you want to be? how much success do you want?

The most important part of setting goals is writing your goal down. The goal when not written is like cigarettes smoke, It disappears in thin air. But when the same goal is written down it is much more powerful and effective.

It seems that only 3% of adults have written down their goals, and this 3% earn more than all other 97% altogether.

I am just going to talk about a very good method of setting goals for yourself. It gives you a goal and a plan to follow.

Ten-Goal Exercise

This is one of the most powerful goal-setting and achieving methods I have found. I practice it myself and advise others to practice it too. This method consists of three main parts. Which are written below. This is very actionable, I advise you to get a sheet of paper and follow it along as you read.

• Write Ten goals

Get a sheet of paper and at the top of the paper write “Goals” and today’s date. This is the fun part, Now write ten goals on that paper, you wanna achieve in the next 12 months.

Write down your all family goals, fitness goals, financial goals, business goals, and even personal possession goals like a car or a house.

Don’t worry about how you are going to accomplish these goals for this moment. Just write them all. it can be more than ten. They can be fifteen but ten is the minimum goal you have to write. You have to write these goals within 3 to 5 minutes.

• Select One goal

Once you have written out ten goals on the paper. Imagine for a moment that you can achieve one of all the goals on your list if you want it enough. Imagine it like you have a “Magic Wand”, You can achieve one goal out of that list by the wave of your wand in twenty-four hours.

Now you have to select one goal out of that list. If you could achieve one goal within 24 hours with the help of a wand,

  • Which one goal would impact your life the most when achieved?
  • Which one goal would help you to achieve your other goals?
  • Which goal would exert the greatest positive impact on your life?
  • Which one goal would change and improve your life more than any other goal?

That should be the goal you will wave your wand on and achieve.

Whatever that goal is out of that list, Highlight it. Take it out and write it at the top of the clean sheet of paper.

This goal now becomes your “major definitive purpose” or your main goal. It becomes your focal point and organizing principle of your future activities. You will plan and work to achieve this goal.

• Make a plan

Once you have written out this main goal, clearly and specifically, and made it measurable. Set a deadline for your goal. Your subconscious brain needs a deadline for it to focus on the attainment of the goal.

Make a list of everything you can do to achieve your goal. Arrange that list according to sequence and priority.

Select the most logical and important next step in your plan. The step that you can do immediately and start the process. Take the first step. Do something, Do anything.

Next, you have to be disciplined to work on your goal every day until you achieve it. This is the key step in achieving goals. This step will guarantee your success. This step is to do something that moves you toward your goal, seven days a week and 365 days a year.
